Between 2000 and 2016 Out of the Box CIO founders received multiple national and provincial awards for efficiency, effectiveness, innovation and evidence-based decision making.
In 2022, we were the first digital advisor in Canada to take a client through the Canada Digital Adoption Program (CDAP).
Incorporation: Originally incorporated as Rapid Intelligence for Management Consulting Services. Premier’s Award of Excellence, Alberta Waitlist Registry: Alberta Health.
Leadership: Leslie Sim becomes Executive and CIO (Chief Information Officer).
Billy leads the definition of the enterprise architecture (business functions, data, information, application, and technology) for Alberta Health.
Billy establishes the business intelligence environment to support planning and decision making for Alberta’s health system.
Awards and Recognition: Numerous National and Provincial awards, including the Premier’s Award of Excellence for the Teacher Registry System. Premier’s Award of Excellence, GTEC, CIPA for the Student Finance System. Premiers Award of Excellence, GTEC and CIPA for the Application Submission Initiative. Premier’s Award of Excellence: for the Teacher Registry System.
Mentorship and Governance: Leslie mentors new CIOs and is a co-founder of the CIO Association Edmonton Chapter. Advisor to Alberta Association for Higher Education in Information Technology (AAHEIT), NAIT’s Women in Technology and the U of A department of Computing Science. Instrumental in defining and implementing the governance models for Alberta Innovates after Minister Horner created the vision of Alberta Innovates.
Campus Alberta ITM Control Framework: Auditor General’s recommends, Leslie lead in collaboration with AAHEIT (Alberta Association of Higher Education in Information Technology) initiated the Campus Alberta ITM Control Framework from 2008 – 2010.
Book References: World renowned speaker and writer Dr. Tony Bates referred to the recommendation and other models in his book “Managing Technology in Higher Education“.
Certified Training: Leslie becomes a certified Crucial Conversations Trainer and Facilitator for the Government of Alberta.
Rebranding: The company rebrands to Out of the Box CIO Inc.
Launch: Introduction of the Transformadox Methodology Assessments.
COVID Studies and Outcomes: Out of the Box CIO Inc. worked with the Dene Nation leaders to develop an action plan for keeping the Dene safe through the COVID 19 pandemic. As a result of their work the Dene National Chief was able to have conversations with Canadian government leaders based on evidence. These conversations resulted in an increase in support funding of over 1,000%, from $650k expected to actually receiving $8.6m.
Digital Advisor Approval: Out of the Box CIO becomes the first approved digital advisor in Canada to complete the CDAP process with a client.
Program Expansion: Launch of Master Class offerings and Group/Individual Coaching and Training programs.
New Initiatives: Launch of Online Courses to further support personal and professional development.

Leslie Sim, a visionary executive and co-creator of the Transformadox Model, has dedicated her career to leading transformational initiatives that drive innovation and significantly increase the value of investments. With a background in personal development and business transformation coaching, Leslie was certified in 2013 as a Crucial Conversations trainer and facilitator.
Leslie’s leadership is rooted in servant leadership and systems thinking. She excels at building high-performing, innovative teams through empowerment and collaboration. Her approach focuses on driving operational efficiencies and cultural change while establishing strategic partnerships and long-term strategies based on financial forecasting and measurable results.
She has had the privilege of interacting with world leaders such as Bill Gates, Michael Dell, and Robert Herjavec and Arlene Dickinson of Dragon’s Den. She has been mentored by thought leaders Deepak Chopra and Jean Houston. Leslie has also worked with, advised, and wrote speeches for multiple Premiers, Ministers, and Deputy Ministers in Alberta.
Her forward-thinking approach challenges the status quo, emphasizing client experience and business efficiency, and always finding solutions to seemingly impossible challenges.
